Of course it would be good to have more than one translator for every language, since work can be done quicker and also reviewed and corrected ;) |

By now, something that can be done quickly for french speakers, would be trying to "grep" the french forums for news which do not yet appear on english forums and posting them on the thread http://www.ryzom.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18
Also, it would be great to have the drafts here and on the french forums translated to other languages. If you want to translate them to german, italian, or any other language, you can do that on the english thread and they'll be moved to any suitable thread/forum afterwards..
Thanks!
I'll talk with ace about the best way to translate our current webpage.. |

could we decide english as base?
so all translation are eng->other language and maybe the other way arround
cause of the international userbase (even though ther might be more french then others) it should be
it's a shame the site itself isn't fully avaible in english ;) |

Here's an example for german (change "_de" to "_sv" for swedish, for example) translated views. You should see, as stated, all special chars as question icon marks, which will be fixed on the next generate from template process, in which i'm working to correct this bugs. Also, quotes which appear escaped will be fixed soon, since this is a problem on my php/perl/javascript mix.
There are many more pages translated (including the menus and so on), but until I can set it on an "alternate" place using the same setup as the main server, the main webpage ones can't be overwritten to avoid bugs :)
This is mostly to help you check the context, not at all as a preview due to the pending bug fixes ;)

I think Russian would be great!
If you're planning on using the Cyrillic alphabet, we might encounter some technical problems atm. However, it you use Latin to begin with, there should be no problem.
QuimRovia is our translation guru and he'll set you up. |

You're more than welcome on board, tribunal... there's many things that could be translated, since we've got a wiki with some documents that would be good to translate to russian, but I'm not at them moment coordinating that effort.. try speaking to Xavier to get more info.
Also, the webpage is being worked on, try to register in http://ryzomproject.rovira.cat/ to set it up, and drop me a private message here or a mail so I can activate your account.
Ryzom itself... well, that's a much big effort, and anyway, it will only be discussed about once we win the bid, if we ever do, so that's something to leave for later on ;) |

there aren't real priorities because what was done on the french wiki is just kind of "skeleton" for the moment
i created a page to organize translation work, here it is: http://wiki.ryzom.org/en/index.php/Translation
it includes a link to the "todo list" :) |

Yes, I have translated several lines and I want you to check it.
The problem, I want to check, is connected with non-latin fonts I use and encoding I use. I want to know, if they are ok, before massive translating |

Precisely... wait a bit for me to try to make some preview of the translated strings so we can check how the tool works on non-latin fonts :)
It's a bit difficult for me to do this today, since I got quite a lot of work, and I won't be able to pay full attention untel the evening, but I'll keep you updated |

| ok, last 4 users activated.. i'm working on the testpage right now, but expect to notify many gitches since i'm using the database extraction and generation tool at the moment.. it would be better if you waited a bit if you plan to translate much. I'll be updating in a few hours. |

Well, I'm falling apart as usual on me, but now on a decent time... 4:46am.
Well, things are pretty advanced now, since we got a test page on ryzomproject.rovira.cat:3000, and although the flags still have to be added, all translations currently done on the tool should be there, but it does not auto-update yet (will be done soon).
Also, there's still the quotation bug, as well as some bug with russian chars, which should be fixed tomorrow. Menu translation also will be added tomorrow ;)
Anything you need, just contact me!
edit: to set the language without using the flag, go to the page /page/lang/<code> (e.g:/page/lang/sv for swedish) ;P |

What are we supposed to do with that?
Copy-paste it, or leave a blank?
Lol yes, I noticed yesterday... when i log in, i¡'ve got a hide button to hide special chars like those and strings which have no real content... i'll take care of it, it should just be left blank ;) |

Hi, I have already registered and now I am translating from english to spanish. I have a question, how would you translate Free Ryzom:
a. Libera a Ryzom
b. Liberad a Ryzom
c. Liberen a Ryzom
or maybe in another way? We need to agree on this so there wont be different translations. |

I plan on setting a note system for each individual translation language on the tool to allow such things to be discussed, but answering your question... i thing most of the options are valid.. i also translated it as "Liberad el Ryzom" some times :) |

Finally! Many news today:
- We've got a working mirror of the official webpage, which should be autogenerated every 5 minutes updating your translations on it. Check it here
- The quotation issue should be fixed, but quotes are still escaped on your previous translations since the auto process would have been quite conflictive, so you just have to recheck the translations and remove any weird backslashes you find around
- Also, special localized chars should be working ok from now on, that includes russian charset support from now on. It's probable that you notice odd seqüences like " on your edit boxes.. if so, try to use firefox, since it handles htmlentities on editboxes better than our beloved internet explorer (won't be an issue on generated pages)
- Added the language flags for every language on the front page, to avoid having to use the /page/lang/ urls
Please, mail me if you find a bug! [email protected] |

I saw that, but i think that Liberad el Ryzom is incorrect, since Ryzom is a name, and in spanish, names arent used with articles. So in any case, it should be without the "el". |

a lot of work has been done on the french wiki and there are about 40 pages to translate
as most of them have been created only for building a wiki architecture, there isn't much text for the moment (but some pages do have much text...)
if the project succeeds (cross fingers...) it would be a good idea to translate those pages rapidly to allow discussing about game evolution with people who can't read french
articles to translate can be reached by the community portal of each wiki
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For convenience, pages related to work organization will only exist on the english wiki, in order to centralize this info |

It would be good to have some translators to also spend some time on this, since the webpage translation is going well and most things are already done... when we got a full revision of the web translated, the work left will be much lesser, since only updates will change the string database ;) |

Grom and neron, welcome on board!! :)
Neron : I've activated your account on the tool page, you should be able to log in and start translating the webpage whenever you want :)
Grom: Please, try to register on http://ryzomproject.rovira.cat/ so I can give you access to the translation tool ;)
By the way, to remind you all about what can be done on the translation effort, you can use the tool to help translate the page, but there's also official documents on the forums posted by Xavier to be translated, as well as the ryzom.org wiki, if you read some posts above ;) |

I have started working on the untranslated french articles.
First of all, there's one problem: A lot of them are empty. ^^
Then I got stuck on this word: "Taxeurs".
I don't know exactly what it means. I did some research on the internet and apparently it's used to designate people who "extort protection money", but in a non-violent way.
How can I translate this into english?
And am I right about the definition or is it simply to designate people who collect taxes?
Taxors?
Bref, c'est quoi un taxeur? Comment le traduire en Anglais?
http://wiki.ryzom.org/fr/index.php/Tribus
Quote: there's also official documents on the forums posted by Xavier to be translated, as well as the ryzom.org wiki
+1 :)
I don't want to translate them all alone, that's why I already put the whole text in french on the wiki and formatted it, so that people could translate it directly, even if they only translate one paragraph or so.
Every single translated sentence is one step closer to a complete translation. ;) |

Simple : find the way this tribe is called in the english version of the game ;)
For definitions :
- Etymologically (hope that word exists ;) ) : it's a tax collector
- In common speech, it's a slang term, and it means (for me, those words tend to have different meanings in different locations) : someone who tends to borrow a lot, without repaying (and without intending to). It does NOT apply to money, but often to small things (smokes, ...). which you don't dare to refuse because you don't want to appear rude. It's the guy who _never_ has any smokes, and ask everybody for one, for example. It's generally the fact that a person is constantly doing this for many different thing that cause it to be labelled as a "taxeur" (or that he is constantly doing it for one or two things). If it's limited (smokes only, for example, and not everyday), the verb is much more used ("Putain, je me suis encore fait taxé des clopes par Machin ce matin !").
I hope this can help if there is lore to define for this tribe, event if I don't think it'll help you much ;) |

How can I translate this into english?
And am I right about the definition or is it simply to designate people who collect taxes?
Taxors?
Bref, c'est quoi un taxeur? Comment le traduire en Anglais?

Simple : find the way this tribe is called in the english version of the game ;)
On the English server they are the Leviers. To 'levy' means to put a tax or toll on something.
So Leviers does mean Taxers. I don't remember anything in the lore which says who or what they are taxing. |

I think we'll have to wait for the lore ;)
And that one improvement to the tribes system is to have them have an activity which is related to their name (not just mindless NPC), but that's best discussed on another thread ;) |

From http://www.ryzom.com/game-lore/races/fyros/fyros-new-beginning :
Quote:

Tribe of the Leviers founded as a reaction against Matis persecution of Fyros.
Their goal seems to be to collect taxes for the Fyros Empire. During an event, they even mentionned to increase taxes for imported products. |

Leviers : Some Fyros are suspicious of money and commerce, as well as dubious exchanges that non regulated commercial activity can bring about. The tribe of the Leviers was formed in reaction to the development of ‘smuggling’ and to guarantee the arrival of quality Fyros products vital for city life. The Leviers believe the best Fyros products should be reserved for the Fyros people, and not be sold to pilfering foreigners.
The authorities of Pyr have a more open attitude towards foreign merchants, and judge the attitude of the Leviers to be a rather excessive. |
