Ok, we've got plenty of work to do, so first of all, here follow the list as posted by Xavier on the "Call for Donations" thread. All of those who want to help, please post in here what sites will you take care of informing about the project and posting news on where applicable. Remember a new thread
Contacted sites, with news posted
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contacted sites, waiting for news
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sites to contact next
MMORPG/Games Websites
Free Software Websites
IT News Websites
General News Websites
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Threads on forums
Apart from this, I've personally mailed a bunch of medias where i live, from newspapers to linux user groups, of which amongst them: Diari Avui, El Periodico, La Vanguardia, 20minutos, grn.es, girona.com, Caliu, Gilug, elsud.org, Vilaweb, but since I dunno if they'll really post anything regarding this, I'd rather wait and see ;)
Btw, it would be good to have a minimalist list of the sites that have published an article talking about the project... like a small "press page" on the website.. xavier?
Other targets to try to hit are linux user groups and such, so every site you can think of, please post in this thread and I'll update the first post. Also, if you want to take care of a site, post here and I'll update it, as well as when it's been contacted and news appear on the page. |

Youdon't have anything posted under Google yet. Would you mind terribly if I created a Google AdWords for Ryzom.org? I'll even cover the cost for at least the first $25 USD. Just give me a list of key words you would like associated with the project.
I might even be able sto swing something similar for Yahoo...
Let me know what you think, and good luck! |

Hi!
About this Gamona Interview:
I forwarded the questions to Zero_tacg, cause i did not played ryzom for more than a quick spot, he was so kind to answer gamonas questions - thx very mutch!
Here is the interview in german, i'll try to translate it later this day:
Quote:
1) Hallo Tobias!
Was waren Deine ersten Gedanken?
Habt Ihr in diesem Bereich schon konkrete Vorstellungen?

I've been talking with Brad, the owner of http://www.mmoreports.com and http://www.gamersreports.com, and he has given order for news about the project to be posted there. Thanks Brad!
He's also interested on participating actively on any non-profit paid service the community tries to set up, so keep his name in mind, since we might see him around quite a bit ;) |

btw Tobias is me, merkur send me the text and asked me to fill the answeres ;)
Quote:
1) Hello Tobias! We are happy that you took a couple of minutes to have this interview. Please introduce yourself to our readers a bit.
I'm a student at the Technical University of Graz in Computerscience, 22 Years, and me leisuretime is a lot with or about computers. And since I know Ryzom a lot of the time flows into it.
2) What's your connection to Ryzom? Since when are you active on the world of Atys, what facinates you most and how much time do you usually invest in your characters?
I think about Ryzom as entertainment, for your freetime, with people thinking the same way. I'm playing Ryzom since the end of January 2005, and since then the people I play with hold me there, but also nearly every other player, because the community and the attitude towards each other is just great. I'm most fascinated by the "look 'n' feel" together with the gameplay, Ryzom isn't just a game it's a real virtual world with different ecosystems etc. and in addition it has a skillsystem that doesn't limit you. The time I spent for my character (more then one would be unimagenable for me, because all that I train with another character could I also use on my maincharacter) differs a lot. Sometimes all my freetime is spent and sometimes you take a break, because somethings can even get work.
There is always something you can do so from time to time you got to hold back yourself and just standstill to enjoy the landscape, of which Ryzom has to offer a lot.
3) The bancrupcy anouncement from Nevrax must have been a shock to most active players. Who did you react to the news? What were your first thoughts?
Well, neither the first nor the seconds anouncement about the bankruptcy was really sureprising. As a player you get a feeling of how much people are playing and a MMORPG needs a minimum amount of players to payoff so you can guess what'll happen. I take it relaxed, Ryzom is a game to entertain, if it is no more there is still the freinds you got, the memories and a lot other MMORPGs you can play. Nothing is like Ryzom, but still you can always find something to spent your freetime on.
My first thoughts were like "damn 2 years of 'work' wasted" and "OMG what else to play". I'm certain it'll be hard to fine something similar, because of Ryzom to me MMORPG has meet certain prerequisites.
4) Under the projectname „The Free Ryzom Campaign“ you currently collect Money, to buy the complete rights over Ryzom and to continue the game as open source project. How exactly was this initiative born and how did you get involved?
Well, I only "got involved" so I can't really say much about how it began, Xavier would be better suited for that. I myself got involved because someone called my attention to it and I think it's an interessting idea which could do a lot for Ryzom, so I participate.
5) According to Nevrax there are other companies that showed interest in Ryzom. What chances do you think you have to accept the bid?
I think we are parted a lot on that. A lot try to keep optimistic, others think more realistic, but don't give up though. I myself count me to the realists. As you can see by the sum that got together already there is a huge interest in the project, but never the less the sum doesn't raise fast enought to reach the 100.000 EUR in time and even if there is no garantue that'll be enought.
6) Your first goal is to get the sum of 100.000 EUR and to bid it fot hte license-rights. How are you pleased with the course of the pledges so far and what was the first feedback od the community to your project?
I think for the short time it's an enormous amount we got. The Community seems to be parted. Some think it's unrealistic others see it as a chance for various things like a Linux client, better and more translation or some other things.
7) How is your further plan, if your bid is accepted? Will all fees vanish? If not will there be regularly updates and wich form of Support will there be? If yes how will you pay the hardware and traffic costs?
Planed for now is a fee to pay the servers, if there will be some sponsored ones it surely will be possible to lower them or maybe even drop them at all. About regulary updates I can't say much, but there is a large amount that can be introduced if the unfinished parts get done and the buggy once get corrected. Support, well wasn't much spoken about, but most likely will be the same as the current one, volluntary helpers. I myself and a lot of other players do really like the current support, compared to otther it's just great. And that mostly because it's players who spent there time to help others.
8) The enormous potential of Ryzom is undoubted, still it lived a shadowy existence in the MMO-World. What consequences to the playercount whould it have if the fees would be droped? Would they raise exponatial?
Everything that is free will find a huge amount of players. There are a couple of free MMORPGs and the servers are nearly always full. Nether the less Ryzom is something "special" it's based mostly on teamplay. At the beginning things are easily acomplished on your own and even later on you can do it all by yourself, but it's much more slowly compared to people that play in a team. In the most other Games I did get to know you could play in a team, but except for certain bosses you can do it all by yourself. Even the craftsystem in Ryzom is more or less based on Teamplay, someone alone would take like forever to get everything high enought to supply himself with everything neccessary. Therefor I think there will be a lot that just can't or want to do teamplay will lose interest really fast.
9) What features do you miss in Ryzom and which would you try to implement first?
I myself miss some fun features. There are a lot of small things that could be implemented easily so you just can so something stupid to have some fun. Implemented first will probably the features that where anounced once and the half finished onces. Even now Nevrax works and thoose parts should also be implemented.
10) How far will the influence of the community to the design of Ryzom go, if your bid is accepted? Do you have concrete plans in thes direction?
Because I myself am just a helper I can only quaote the "Soucial Contract". There shall be democracy and the players can vote. So if the community chooses something it shall be tried to acomplish it.
11) Is there anything else you want to tell our readers? Now would be the right time for a call for donations.
Ryzom is one of the best MMORPGs that exist, it just missed to make a huge buzz, adds etc and the open source project could let it evolve alot.
12) Tobias, thanks for your time.
