Nice idea, I've made my pledge. ;p The Pledge Bank also seems to be a good idea&website, thanks for the link.
However, you're very low on pledgers. Have you tried getting more visibility on this? |

Well, certainly, I posted on this and other forums to spread the word. :)
Also added link in signature.
Only thing I haven't tried yet is mass-mailing and posting news on sites like slashdot. I am a little bit to shy for that. ^^' |

You don't need to "mass" mail, only people you have talked to; if people are interested, they will spread the word themselves.
Slashdot is also a must-do; the news could not get through due to the lack of signatures, but if you get support from one or two related organizations, that should do the trick. It's a good idea, there is no reason to be shy. :) |

I know these forums aren't very visited anymore since we lost the ryzom campaign, so nobody really cares about the spam problem anymore, but I have a suggestion to fight the spam if you are interested or know other spam infested forums:
I just discovered a new method used on forums to detect bots while trying to register on happypenguins.org:
They show a picture of a fruit and ask what kind of fruit is shown on the picture.
I have never set up a forum myself, so I have no idea how to implement this, but maybe it can help here or elsewhere. ;)
Concerning the virtual citizenship association, if there's any new campaign coming up, I'm ready. :)
edit:
The happypenguin solution is even random. It's not always about fruits. :D |

Ahah, good idea. ;p For the spam problem, on the updated version, it is planned to switch to FUDForum, which is less known so less prone to bot attacks. All the current messages will be kept of course, and I hope it will solve the issue.

It's very early to say, but as said on the other thread, we are discussing with the owners of Seed. Only a few emails have been exchanged until now, but I'll of course let you know what comes out of it. |

Will it also be possible to switch BuildaWorld.net to different forum software? Spam is cropping up there as well.

Definitely an unusual game. There would be pros and cons in having something non-generic, but it wouldn't be boring. |

Sure; if you want to have a look at how FUDForum looks, you can see http://dev.virtualcitizenship.org/forums2/ . What I really like with this forum software is its gatewaying features: it can be linked to a mailing list or a newsgroup, which can be more handy to follow for some. It also has good and flexible RSS feeds. I've discovered it recently though, so there may be some drawbacks I'm not aware of.
Let me know what you think, and if it's good enough for you, I'll switch the boards to it in the coming weeks. |
