I've just locked the Ryzom.org and Build a World forums, which are now read-only archives. The discussion for the Build a World project has moved to its new boards, so there is no point in having a dupe board open there.
As always, if you disagree, say it there! |

Hi Xavier,
This is just my thought, but why not replace build a world with something like world building? It could be a place to discuss issues related to building a MMORPG in general as opposed to issues particular to the build a world project.
This might include things like what is the best way to implement magic... How might time and weather effects influence combat ... what is the best way to handle death...
In addition we could talk about other world building projects and systems (project wish, worldforge, secondlife, etc.) as well as technologies that were not adopted by the buildaworld project.
It would not be geared to starting or continueing any specific project, but be more along the lines of 'isn't this interesting..." or "wouldn't it be nice if..."
anyhow, this is just my opinion...

I think this would be a suitable thread (or threads) to start at BuildaWorld.net. Remember, BuildaWorld is going to be supporting multiple approaches and solutions, and will include multiple teams with different goals. For example, a world built using the BuildaWorld tools could work with both WorldForge and Delta3D. Different teams can experiment with different technologies and still work together on the technologies that they will be sharing. |

Perhaps a middle way would be to start such threads in the VCA general board, if they aren't specific to the Build a World project; if it starts getting in the way of other topics here, we'd be able to start a new forum or reuse the Build a World forum.
Does it seems like a good solution to you? |

I'm good with that ... anyhow, probably won't be more the occasional odd message or two.
or design rant. I am sometimes subject to uncontrollable MMO design rants.

I found no link from the VCA site to buildaworld.net and vice-versa.
I had to search for this thread in the forums.
Yup, the BuildAWorld project needs better visibility on the VCA website; my TODO list for the VCA website is getting big, I'll try to do something about it in the coming week - not guaranteed, since my overall TODO list is big too, but this is important.

Yes, the number of spams is increasing lately; I'll have to look at preventing bots again, seems like the mod I installed back in December isn't effective anymore. Another item for the TODO list. ;p |

I think you should do what suits you and the community best, you obviously have your reasons for moving the forum and archiving it. I'm really quite new to all of this but reading though some of them has been interesting.
Cheers
