Sorry if these had been answered before:
- will all the artwork be made available? and can I modify it at will?
- can I compile and run my own server?
- can I modify the source to build my own private custom versions?
I asked this on the Ryzom forum, and was told that yes, I could do all of that free of charge. I just wanted to confirm that.
thanks,

What i understood is that all the content that will be bought will be totally free.
The goal is not to make money, or to own Ryzom, or anything. It's only to permit everyone to use all the material at will, and to permit the dream of an entire comunity to live.
The source will be Opened and free, the artwork free of use too, the sounds and maybe the screensaver of the pdg if Ryzom.org manage to buy it.
So you will be able to use, modify, and even eat, if you want, each line of code, each 3d model or each sound of Yubo.
This is for the materials. |

I'll answer them in order.

Yes. More than like the artwork will be licensed under FDL or CC (Creative Commons.)

Yes, if this project succeeds the game will be licensed under GPL (or a similar license.) There will be a whole suite of tools, I'm sure, much like the engine that runs Ryzom already sports. A bug tracker, a wiki and various CVS tools I'm sure will be available.

Yes, but if the game is licensed under GPL (which is more than likely will be) you will be obligated to share your changes to the source with the community by submitting the patch to the project maintainer. Granted you are only legally obligated to do this if you distribute your compiled changes to anyone who is not a developer on your project.
I hope that clarifies it for you. |
