Hello,

You may wonder why I haven't posted the first draft of the plan as planned today... The reason is simple, there may be something even better to present on the 5th than the original "donations promises only" plan.

This morning, I had a call from Valentin Lacambre (sorry, it's in French - Google Translate here), which some of the French around may well know; he is one of the main figures of the French "alternative Internet". He loved the project, and wanted to jump in as a potential investor, with perhaps some cash to give us for the trial day. As mentioned earlier in this forum, this would solve two of the biggest issues of this project : credibility and something to give to the liquidator. I do not have all the details, as we are having a meeting to discuss it this evening, so do not jump around calling for victory yet. :) I'll of course keep you posted.

Also, I had on the phone Jean-Baptiste Soufron, a French lawyer specialized in OSS/FS licenses and former chief legal officer of the Wikimedia Foundation. He and his staff of lawyers proposed to help us circumventing legal issues regarding the licenses and the organization, if we buy the game.

Guys, we haven't won yet, but it's definitely looking good.

Really awesome news! Very nice work Xavier!

A suggestion... Create a news section prominently displayed on the site. We need a constant flow of news to motivate contributors. If we could post this on the front page, somewhere fairly conspicuous, but so that it doesn't detract from the main message of the site (i.e. first time visitors don't get lost), that would be awesome. For the English page, here is one idea:

Right under the banner the front page should go something like this...

Quote:
Help us make Ryzom a Free MMORPG! Donate now to help us purchase the source code, artwork and other game data associated with Ryzom, so we can breathe new life into it as an open, democratically run player project. Click here for more information (this link would go to the "Players are a..." quote)

News Archive Link

"Players are a constituency, not just an audience. The designers, far from being auteurs, are more like local politicians. The audience doesn't just watch the story. The audience is the story. The players are producing as much as they're consuming - perhaps more." JC Herz., 50,000,000 Star Warriors Can't Be Wrong, Wired 10.06. 2002

What is Ryzom...
Ryzom is an innovative MMORPG, which has been developed since the year 2000 by the independent studio, Nevrax....etc.

There should be a steady stream of news coming out of this project to show everyone just how vibrant and active this community really is. One can find it out by trawling the forums, but most people won't bother with that and want something quicker. Things like, the slashdoting we recently received, postings to major sites, when we got past the 1/2 way point of our goal, this wonderful announcement you've recently told us about... Major events and milestones. These would all be news items. We don't want too many on the front page though, maybe three or four and then have a link to a news archive.

I hope you get the idea. We should share great news like this whenever possible is the bottom line.

I agree, a news section would be great, I've been trying to contact ace for many things related to the web, but had no success.

P.S:Impressive work, Xavier

Great ! Do you know precisely when we'll get feedback from the liquidators ? it would be nice to have a roadmap on the website, along a news section.

Yup, I like roadmaps too. :) But don't you think it's a bit early to start planning?

well, when I say roadmap, i mean a roadmap of upcomming event for the next few days, not for what's to be expected after the liquidation.. A roadmap displaying the time range from when project opened to public to when we're supposed to face the liquidation :)
