Hi ,

I have a suggestion how we could handle databases post open-sourcing ... ( if that happens) : ( if there has been something different I apologize)

1) All databases , tables , data , config files, ARTWORK , etc that DO NOT contain sensible data (mob locations , etc - that are part of the game) along with the server binaries and source codes are released under the GPL and (for dbs and artwork ) some CC sharealike licence - or another open source licence...

2) the databases that contain sensible data (passwords, user accounts, characters. ) should be stored with Xavier .

On this webpage here , the foundation should open up a webpage where the people can log on with their game accounts and passwords.
There they can
a) download their data and
b) (important) use an interface , where they can choose any number of other , third-party, gameservers ( or maybe enter URLs) which run a HTTPS webpage requiring authentification with a certificate (issued by the foundation) - to which the authorised foundation web-page can upload the full and unmodified character data as received from GameForge...

These servers then create the accounts ( of course you can alter the password beforehand on a per-server basis) to the credentials provided. This process can be repeated infintely.

Like that people can also play their characters on third party servers - should these want "original" characters ( alternatively these servers could give you "gifts" for your character: like transfer your gold - or get half the level , etc.. .) and prevent people from cheating with them...

This gives you total ownership of your character (or rather to the underlying data)...
