Hello Xavier and everyone
The animated movie "Kaena: The Prophecy" and Ryzom shares so many things that I get curious. Are there just coincidents, or has there been collaborations during planning/production? It's not just the visual style but also the setting.
If anyone can spread some light, I would be very interested.
PS
I hope VCA get Ryzom. I'm still coming here several times a week to see if there are any news

afaik Kaena came out a year before Ryzom (2003 - K and 2004 - R)... so who knows some ideas might have been discussed in the same coffee house, sap and all ;)
I think there hardly could have been a collaboration, though the cartoon was based on a story by a french author Patrick Daher with screenplay edited and the whole set directed by Chris Delaporte. Both of them never participated in any other large-screen projects.
You are not the first one to ask this question since this can be found at IMDB.COM under Kaena topic:
Quote: "Did you like Axis, the tree-world?
Massive Multiplayer Online RPG "Saga of Ryzom" (http://www.ryzom.com), released in 2004, is based on rather similar concept. It's set on planet Atys, a living "wooden world" inhabited by giant insect, various strange beasts and several tribes of people who struggle to make their living in dangerous world, crafting all their tools and weapons from wood, amber and animal products.
To make things even harder, two divine powers struggle over the control of Atys - the Kami, native "forest spirits", and the Karavan, mysterious space travellers who came from the sky aboard of ships made of metal.
After playing Ryzom, I was surprised how much it reminds me Kaenna (although there is no tree-jumping and such). I wonder how much they inspired each other." end of Quote.
Some more info on Kaena can be found here http://kaena81.free.fr/planetes.php In french only alas.
The webpage quite possibly has a great deal more info but alas I don't read french :) |
