On the main page is written:

We want to turn this model on it's head and give players control over the virtual world their character's inhabit. We want to purchase the source code, game data, and artwork, so that we can further develop it by placing it under a Free Software license. Once this is accomplished we would reopen the universe of Ryzom to players and have it function and further developed under democratic controlled basis.

Do this say Ryzom servers are closed after we get the code till we "further develop" it? I would really dislike this!

I think one main point must be to keep the current world up and running! If we close the servers player will left - and all the history they build till now are destroyed.

Of course there will be a problem with running costs (i.e. server housing and bandwidth) but i would not mind to charge the players to pay this, till we (eventually) come up with other ways to keep the servers running - of course in a non profit manner.

Put it short: our proposal need to include away to keep the server running after we take over ;)

Being realistic, and as a very personal point of view, I think the first priority is trying to restablish some robust servers to keep Ryzom working as it is now, maybe unifying the shard if it's needes to be more simple, but allowing all current players to play the game the way it is.
But even that requires quite a lot of planification, so there'll have to be some concurrent processes happening at the same time, since the code will have to be open sourced, while some try to fit budgets for paid servers to get online and so on..
further developements, as said on the page, means making possible for coders to improve the codebase, not that we plan any changes before service is restablished.
