I know that this is a little premature. But I was wondering if there was anyway for the users to mirror the main server in ryzom. I know that any one user cannot mirror the entire sever. But what if ryzom had an option to let users donate harddrive space and bandwidth. I know that this is guessing in the dark becuase I don't know were the world or users data is stored (user I'm presuming is stored on the main server). And maybe the entire world data is stored on the users pc (it is seven gigs). But if you could distribute this data out across the users then the server cost would radically drop. I'd be in favor of using the bittorrent protical (becuase its so dam fast (although there are issue with starting up)) or maybe the corel cache (becuase it lets user store different parts to a website). Becuase I want to make something that not can't be decapitated but doesn't have a head. There are issues of what about a malicous user posioning the files etc. etc. but I think with the proper precautions (md5 hash checks?) we can create something new and incrediable!

This is technically very difficult, even not knowing the intrinsics of the game, and a game should probably be designed from scratch to follow that design.. Anyway, we're not trying to alter anything, we're only trying to liberate it as open source software so anyone might try to implement new ideas.

wait up with ideas of code to implement till we have it in our grasp
if it gets open source there sure might be a lot of changes additions but it isn't open source right now so basicly all ppl are trying to make a buzz and gather funds so it could be :)

some kind of p2p bandwidth sharing for free ryzom would be very cool, i doubt something like this is done before. There could be "some" (large) technical problems involved ;)

Personally i don't see a problem to charge players to cover server hosting and bandwidth cost's - in a non profit manner.
