So many people are interested in building a world, having a freed game+engine, and contributing their part. Momentum seems to have died on these forums, but it has been picking up other places.
Rather than a pure democracy like WorldForge, I am enamored of task based design. Someone accepts a project, they work on it with some degree of feedback, and most of the decisions are made by the person working on the project. BuildAWorld.net is the meeting place for design following specific goals.
First of all, we are trying to make a game engine that allows modder style game design (art and scripting without C++). Second, the game engine should allow most types of online gaming, rpg, simulation, space, etc but some focus will be applied initially to rpg style games that have a ground. third, the tools and components necessary to design and build a world should be available for free and/or included.
I'm working on AI design in a modular and flexible architecture. I have 8 major components planned, and AI can be run either as server side scripts, player scripts, database driven actions, and persistent learning with neural networks, genetic algorithms and specialized tactical systems (expert knowledge systems trained on rulesets). It is my hope and long term goal to make a generalized AI capable of providing a decent challenge for any game using the generalized rules under a single architecture with some functionality out of the box.
We're moving on to the next stage, we appear to have selected a codebase as the initial game engine, providing more functionality and features than NeL did. |
