thats a great initiative and defenitely worth supporting and a great opportunity. what about increasing incentives to donate though? yes, it would cause some inequality and would increase "administration costs" but this depends on the actual preferential rights.

i dont know the game very well and i dont know how difficult it'll be to implement them, but it only needs to be implemented if the money is going to be paid anyways.

just some brainstorming here:

1) special weapons or tools for donators (perhaps time limited)
2) some kind of bonus card that can be used "x" times (perhaps linked to the amount of Euro donated),
3) right to participate in special contests/battles with some nice prizes
4) points which can be exchanged into money when Ryzom is actually bought and advertising money is coming in.

what else?

.
the people who are running this forum might wanna get a couple of reasonable proposals together and make such a poll with useful things giving people more incentives to invest/donate.

GOOD LUCK and all the best with this project!

I voted other. The largest incentive for me would be the promise of cross platform play being made first priority. I run Linux and would like to be able to play a fun fantasy MMO. I will pledge (and donate when the time comes) the cost of a normal retail game if I can actually run the game.

I think we shouldn't promise *anything* apart what is on the social contract. We just do not have the necessary visibility on what we will be able to do and what will be the priorities. Do not fall into the promise trap - believe me, you'll regret it.

I agree that would be an error, we want to see Ryzom stay as it is until the end of the whole process (given we succeed on buying), and start running a server under the same conditions it is now, if possible.

;)

im not a big fan of the suggested options myself. but you have to be realistic too. i mean the administrator of the bankruptcy proceedings doesnt care about what players want and thats its a nice thing if it runs on linux but his task is to ensure that creditors get most of their money back.

the purpose of this poll was to do some brainstorm on how to give them what he wants in order for the community to get the whole thing under the gpl. as most of the times in life, compromises are necessary.

if there is enough money raised, of course one should not promise more than necessary. 28 000 euro is quite a considerable amount but there still seems to be money missing.

personally id rather see a gpl'ed ryzom with some inequalities than the whole thing run in a warcraft like manner. just my 2 cents.

Anyone will be able to propose new weapons, skins, objects, armors, etc... if Ryzom become open-source :p

ok if its technologically really not possible/wanted to give donators some reward for their economic investment...but what about options 3 & 4? they can be restricted to donators, with very low administration and overseeing costs, right?

Personnaly, I think donators could have their name in the credits (on site and/or the game).

It would be good to have all donators on a page in case this succeeds, but that's something that would come later.. by now, our only goal is to spread the word and arrenge all technical and legal issues on this project.
