I already opened this thread but it the ryzon.org forums. Take a look at it here.
I heard SOE's broke and some people proposed buying their games. (Planetside , for example) I think we should buy EQ2- It's safe for the future (one of the best graphics in the market) The fees were much too high , and too less ads, so there are no players and no cash. And I think hosting could be easily distributed. EQ2 runs zoneservers which don't need much power on their own. IT is run by a large cluster of ordinary , low-end , pcs. Because of this everybody interested could host a ZoneServer(of course he had to be trusted in the means of Anticheat and server reliability) at nearly no cost (such a Server runs alongside your own home server for CS and the like . I know many people who have 24:7 home servers.) So we wouldn't require fees and still give the players fun. The ZoneServer concept also is very stable and the servers don't have much communication between themselves . Only a connection to a Database and a connection when somebody enter or leaves a zone. |

We're building a game, and EQ2 was SOE flagship product before Vanguard. I don't think they'd sell for less than $10 mil or so. A reasonable price might be $40 mil, but selling would be against SOE business model anyway.
Delta3D supports Linux, game is being built using Delta3D at Buildaworld.net |

No offense, but even if SOE does decide to sell, I personally think that EQ2 was NOT the general direction I would personally take things.
It is too resource hungry for one. For two, it feels too much like a single player game. That is not what I want from an MMO. (There are two M's for a reason).
Third, all the stuff that they broke as they went along the way in EQ1, were built into EQ2 in their already broken state.
^^;;
Yes, it had it's enjoyable parts, but not enjoyable enough to keep me arround for long.
Remember though, this is just my oppinion. A lot of people like the game. :P Everyone has their own tastes. |
