If the ultimate goal is an open source MMO, then give the money to the WorldForge project.
They've been in development since '98, and could really use the money. |

| I'm pretty well impressed by that World Forge project. It seems that they share a lot of the same goals as our MMO From Scratch project. Only, they're a number of years into the development. |

I am of the opinion that Worldforge would not do anything with the money that virtualcitizen or freeryzom (whatever I should call the people who have the money) could not do themselves, for instance as was mentioned elsewhere run competitions for the production of GPL compatible 3D media, music etc. and look after it in in an accessible repository so that projects such as Worldforge could use it. Since Worldforge's media is under GPL then such a repository could be started using the media in Worldforge's repository.
Currently tools for converting between many different 3D formats and Collalda [sp?] are under development as the path of media creator's format of choice --> Collada --> client media format. has been decided on to allow flexibility. currently this is in early development.
perhaps different projects could be tied together with a common network protocol as different Worldforge projects are tied together with Atlas.
anyway that is just a few of my ideas (possibly stolen from other people :)).
Oh and no one called nerdler has ever been on the irc as far as brenda (bot) knows, or posted on the forums, no request for money has been placed by Worldforge and there is no way available to give them money or anywhere to put it. |
