First of all... and in a single word... wonderful :')
Now, on another hand.. I was thinking about contacting a couple of publications that get printed on the faculties were I am studing to cast a call for donations for the Ryzom.org project. Both publications are student-driven, and for what I know they'll surely support the idea by allowing an article on them talking about Ryzom.org project, but thay've got to be contacted, since I dunno when they close editions.
The thing is that I'd like to confirm you think it's also a good idea, and if we should agree on a standard "content" for such calls for donations.. if not, I'll write a first version of that and publish it somewhere for review (translated versions, of course)
P.S.: I've read around thsi web, but I couldn't find an answer to this.. Do we know how the timeline will develop? Specially regarding when do we need to have the money raised already? |

| In my opinion, Yes, we need credibility and publicity to raise that much money in such a short time.. we need to be everywhere... from slashdot to stallman's personal page.. also on blogs, newspapers and wherever possible, and that can be achieved, that's why I ask about info about the "line of actuation" |

yeah "all we need" is to create a huge buzz so it's time to give work to news site and friends ^^.
btw before that this site must be opened, it's no use if it remain accessible to a few |

Yup ; and we'll need to have a list ready very quickly, as we do not have much time (the liquidator will base his judgment on the money we have on December 5th, that's in a little bit more than a week!).
I've started compiling a list of websites we should contact once the website becomes public; it has been built with suggestions I received, websites I know and sites who have published news or articles about Ryzom in the past (see the press coverage page on ryzom.com. Also, do not try to reach them now - without any public information about the project, it would be confusing, and we don't want to anger the people behind by flooding their mailbox... If you think of others, just reply in the thread and I'll update the list:
MMORPG/Games Websites
Free Software Websites
IT News Websites
General News Websites
I think we will probably need to hit the Free Software and MMO sites before we target the General news websites, since we need to show that there is some interest on the project, instead of showing them a nearly empty donation meter. ;) For example, if we can release the website tomorrow, we could target the MMO/FS sites the same day, and wait until Wednesday to send emails to IT/general news websites |

Yup, I'm really eager to open the gates, but I am trying to get an approval from Nevrax. Considering the way this project was discussed by officials on the EN forums, and the bad community press which resulted from it, I do not want to take the risk of starting a flame war now, this is the last thing a project like this one needs.
As soon as Nevrax says "your website is ok with us", it will be opened. |

| Ok, what about this... why don't we meet up in IRC (at freenode, for example) tonight, sometime at around 8-12 paris time, to coordinate everything up? If we get news from Xavier regarding his request about opening the ryzom.org page, we could start today, if not we could widen our targets and decide on a call text so we don't look like a bunch of unorganized utopists of free software. Or let's start a thread about this, if you think it's right. |

Seems like a good idea to me. I've opened the website, and added a web irc client, linked to the nel channel on freenode; I think the devs there won't mind the intrusion. :)
So, 8-12 pm Paris time ? I'll add a link to this thread in the mail announcing the opening of the website to the founding members/donators, and specifying the specified time; but I'll hang around in this channel all day, if anyone cares for a chat.. |
